Recent studies conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice have shown that one child disappears every 41 seconds in the United States.

In fact, over 2,300 children are reported missing every day.  While the vast majority of these kids are found within minutes or hours, the chance of recovering a child declines by 50% after the first 24 hours that the child is missing.

DNA is found in almost every living cell.  It carries the coded information that, in it’s most simple terms, is inherited from our parents and what defines us as individuals; it is your DNA that makes your body look and function like it does.   Each and every cell in your body contains a copy of your DNA and is unique only to you unless, that is, you are an identical twin.  DNA analysis is increasingly becoming the “genetic fingerprint” of the future.

Every parent should have an updated file on his or her child.  Should your child become missing, it is essential to have specific identification to provide law enforcement for the recovery of your child.  These files often include an updated description of your child including a recent photograph, height, weight, blood type, and any distinguishing marks.

Fingerprints are becoming an increasingly common method of identification. However, DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) sampling has proven the most accurate and preferred means of identification by the FBI in an investigation.   A simple DNA kit can include samples of your child’s hair, nail, and saliva.  Many kits come with easy “Do-it-yourself” instructions and can be conveniently stored in your own freezer.
